MDF Box Card

Here is our latest blog post

The original card was made by Suzanne (Design Team Member). It uses the A4 Premium Paper Packs, MDF Sentiments and Cosmic Holographic Glitters.  In our workshops we also used the new Flower Dies on our cards 🙂

There is a lot of cutting for this card as we have used two different coloured layers of paper each section, but you could certainly make it easier by just having one layer of paper each section! (Follow the cutting for Layer 1 only if you want to make it easier)

Stage 1 – Cut out all the layers needed as below:

  • Base Card – x2 pieces of white card – 28.5cm x 9.5 (Score each piece at 9.5cm and 19cm). Glue the middle sections together to make the box and let dry.
  • Lid – 16cm x 16cm white card (Score each side at 3cm all way round and snip at corners to glue sides together later – after you have stuck the layers on!)
  • Outer Box Sections
    • Sides Layer 1 – 9cm x 9cm (x4)
    • Sides Layer 2 – 8.5cm x 8.5cm (x4)
  • Lid Sections
    • Top Layer 1 – 9.5cm x 9.5cm (x1)
    • Top Layer 2 – 9cm x 9cm (x1)
    • Side Panels 1 – 9.5cm x 2.5 (x4)
    • Side Panels 2 – 9cm x 2cm (x4)
  • Inner Box Sections
    • Sides Layer 1 and Base Layer 1 -9cm x 9cm (x5)
    • Sides Layer 2 – 8.5cm x 8.5cm (x4)
    • Base Layer 2 – 8.5cm x 8.5cm (x1) use different paper than sides to contrast
  • Circle Dies – we have left ours white and stamped them
  • Flower Dies

Stage 2 – Glue all the layers to the box sections.

After you have attached the layers on the lids, fold the lid and glue together.

Stage 3 – Choose whether you want to Glitter your MDF Sentiment or Use Embossing Powder – both look fab!  The Holographic Glitter covers the MDF more fully than the Glitter Alchemy.  If you choose to Emboss, make sure you Double Emboss the words to fill the colour.

We have used our Brush Glue Applicator to apply the glitters.  You don’t need a lot of glue as it’s very strong!

The MDF Sentiments all come with extra shapes that you can embellish and add to your box card!

Stage 4 – Choose which Stamps to use on the plain white circles and use coordinating ink to match the papers.

Stage 5 – Ink and shape the flowers

Stage 6 – We have used Pinflair Glue to hold our MDF Sentiment in place.  This takes time to dry, so ideally leave this for at least 3 hours before adding the flowers around the base so it is set.  The flowers will disguise the Silicone glue, or you could sprinkle it with glitter!

Each MDF Sentiment will have at least anchor points at the base when a good blog of Pinflair can be added.

Stately Elegance

Here’s a lovely card made using the Stately Paper Pads, Stately Corner Stamps, Stately Sentiment Stamps and Double Debossed Rectangle Dies.

This was a lovely card to make and most us even decorated the envelopes!

TIP – if you place the rectangle dies carefully, you get all 3 paper layers from 1 sheet of card!

Stage 2 – choose one of the gorgeous Stately Corner Stamps to use on the plain layer.  You can use Ink or Embossing Powder – we have used Gathered Twigs on this card.  You could also add Clear Embossing Powder over the Distress Oxide to make it glossy.

Stage 3 – choose one of the Stately Sentiments to use on your topper. Fill in any spaces with the Corner Stamps.

Stage 4 – colour your flowers, shape and assemble

Stage 5 – decorate your envelope if you want a fully coordinated look!

Stage 6 – assemble the card, using foam tape where you wish. Add ribbon, glitters or pearls.

Paper Fold Card

Good evening lovely crafters!

This is my first post on our new Blog site and I have to say it’s so much nicer to use! 🙂

Here is a card made a few weeks ago at our regular craft classes.  We’ve had a lot of requests for the instructions for this one, so I hope you all enjoy making this card.

This card was made using Phills Sentimentally Yours Paper Pads and Chalkboard Stamp Collection.  We have also used Sue Wilson Dies; Orange Blossom Petals and Orange Blossom Leaves, Madeleine and various distress oxides ink colours.

Stage 1 – Cut out all the layers and die cut shapes needed for your card.

  • Card Blank – 19cm x 19cm
  • Layer 1 – 18.5cm x 18.5cm (coloured with ink)
  • Layer 2 – 18cm x 18cm – embossed with your choice of embossing folder
  • Layer 4  – 18cm x 4cm (coloured with ink)
  • Layer 5 – 18cm x 3.5cm – embossed with your choice of embossing folder

Stage 2 – Create your paper fold pieces using x2 sheets of the same paper pattern from one of the 8×8 Paper Pads.  Don’t forget to glue down the folds as this makes it easier to stick the paper to the card after.

To make the instructions easier to follow I have attached a file that you can download and keep in your crafty stash!

Paper Fold Card Instructions

Step 3 – Choose a coordinating Distress Oxide ink pad and, using a smoothie, colour the edges of the first layer and strip and also the plain part of the madeleine die.   You can also colour some of your flowers if you wish.

Image 1

Stage 5 – Choose a sentiment for your topper.  You can use the same colour from your layers or the Black Soot Distress Oxide.  Some of our lovely crafters did a banner instead of the circle topper which looks just as fab!

Stage 6 – Assemble your card layers, using foam tape where you wish to add dimension. Shape your flowers and arrange.

Stage 7 – Add some bling if you wish.  Here our crafter has used Crystal Chips Glitter Jewels.
